Peter Broderick; A Prodigy, Listening to His Music is Another Form of Praying

Lemme start this post by delivering a confession.

So, actually, I need for about 15 minutes to recall the first time I found Peter Broderick. I was pretty sure one of his songs is included in 500 Days of Summer soundtrack, but when I try to dig the video, there's none of them. I was stuck. Anyhow, after debating with my self, I got some enlightenment. The first time I knew him is not because of that romance story between Tom and Summer, I found him in another romance film, Now is Good, back then in 2013. To be honest, that sad story movie didn't give me sucha awesome impression or whatsoever, but the soundtrack did.

His song that I was heard in that movie is entitled 'And It's Alright'. The music is really simple anyway; it doesn't have that common long lyrics, well basically it's just Peter repeatedly singing the words 'It's Alright'. Some people might think this song is kinda lullaby that makes them bored and sleepy, but you know that it's just exactly what I like. 'And It's Alright' has that calm vibe and sound, it's only used string's repetition and backed by light piano and percussion. This song is really perfect to be listened for unwinding after an exhausting day, or it's gonna be awesome for a drive-around session at night. You know that type of music you would listen when you have a wish that everything's gonna be just fine.

Like I always do, after I heard the song, I tried to look for his other songs and any other information about him. Peter actually comes from Portland, Oregon, USA, but in 2007 he moved to Europe where now he has been based. Peter comes from a musician family; his father and mother are both musician and his sister named Heather Wood Broderick is also a musician. That's why he has been familiar with music and instrument since he was a kid. Peter started playing violin at 7 y.o, since then he tried to play other instruments like piano, guitar and tambourine, well basically anything. Peter started his debut by joining a group named Efterklang in 2007.

Okay, enough for small talks, what I wanna tell you that Peter Broderick is really one of a kind, he's truly restless, prodigious music Lord deserves to be on you playlist, or at least to be listened. Most of you might never heard his name before, but he's actually quite popular among multi-instrumentalists and composers. His existence is proven by those bunch of albums, EP, collaborations works that can't be counted anymore since they're really alot (you might check it on his website). His latest album 'Peter Broderick & Friends Play Arthur Russell which was released in 2018. As stated in the title, this album is presented by Peter with his squad as a devotion to Arthur Russell, an American cellist. He got a chance to listen some of unreleased works of Arthur's and later he decided to record his rendition album of Arthur's songs.

I cannot surely mention what kind of music genre he performs because as I've mentioned before that Peter play bunch of music instruments, that's why is music is so varied. Sometimes he goes so classical with solo piano, but his music can be so light and folksy. You can feel happiness through one song, but he can also bring you deep down in the sadness in another song. The most unique thing is that Peter often performs a monologue or story with that calming music background. Well, I don't know though it can be called a song or not, you know what I mean.

Hope someday Peter would have a gig in Indonesia. He's always be on my should-be-watched-concerts-before-I-die list. I bet the concert will be so limited, intimate and touching. Oh wish it will come true.

I suggest you listening 'Colours Of The Night', 'Sideline', 'Red Earth' and 'Everything I Know'. If you wanna try something new, you can pick song/monologue entitled 'These Walls of Mine I'.
